Faith Beyond Faith Healing: Finding Hope After Shattered Dreams

Ms. Winston's "Faith Beyond Faith Healing" Inspires
Kimberly Winston's inspiring and sometimes heart-wrenching book, "Faith Beyond Faith Healing", is about people whose faith survives after apparently receiving a "No" from God in answer to their prayer for a "miracle healing". Those interviewed by Ms. Winston have the same enduring love for God as the child who doesn't stop loving a parent who, for one reason or another, does not give them the new bicycle they so desperately wanted. Through her stories, Ms. Winston strengthened my understanding that God knows that we may sometimes need a "spiritual healing", "mental healing" or an "emotional healing" more than a mere "physical healing. According to a quote in "Faith Beyond Faith Healing", "Sometimes we don't notice the miracle we actually get. We may ask God to take the tumor away, but the actual miracle may be that we get the resources to live with that tumor." True faith is understanding that God gives us what we need, not always what we desire. After completing Ms. Winston's book, I was so filled with love and renewed faith, I found I had tears in my eyes and a smile on my face.

Florida's Fabulous Bird

Florida's Fabulous Birds
This is an excellent book for the Florida bird watcher. It has large color photographs of the birds in their natural habitats. Often with more than one picture of the species! There is just enough information included to answer common questions. I use this book in my classroom and the elementary aged students find it useful and easy to use.

I have also used Florida's Fabulous Butterflies. Same excellent quaility!

Wonderful book
This was a wonderful book. I had to buy it for an ecology class on the Everglades, but it was well worth it. It has beautiful large color illustrations, and descriptions of the various water birds of Florida. A great investment whether you plan to visit, like I did, or just to enjoy the book by itself. Really useful in identifying birds, especially wading, in the cypress swamps, as well as the entire Everglades water shed. A must buy.

Gargoyles

Authors: Thomas Bernhard, Richard Winston, and Clara Winston

Seems The Most Accessible, Until...
This is Thomas Bernhard's first novel, and at first it seems to be a rambling collection of grotesques in the manner of WINESBURG, OHIO. But then, after the insane industrialist and the boy in the cage, we reach the realm of the prince, and the novel takes off into the territory Bernhard explores in his later books -- that is, breathless, disjointed, almost-incoherent blocks of text. Note that I'm not suggesting this is a bad thing. Here it's wonderful. And although the prince's rant is quite exhausting, it's exhausting in a good way (I had to put the book down a few times during Molly's soliloquoy too, but that doesn't mean it's bad, just perhaps a bit demanding). An obvious choice for any Bernhard fan, and just possibly a good trick to play on someone, who will believe they're reading a naturalistic novel, until....

Gay Roots : Twenty Years of Gay Sunshine : An Anthology of Gay History, Sex, Politics, and Culture
Published in Hardcover by Gay Sunshine Press (November, 1991)
Authors: Winston Leyland and Jack Fritscher

Mindboggling!
The articles about Abraham Lincoln and George Washington alone should be required reading for all U.S. history classes. Kenneth Starr would have gone wild looking at the private lives of our country's two greatest leaders.

A Must-Have for everyone who is OVERWHELMED Daily!
Having prevously enjoyed Stephanie's writing, I was not surprised to see her newest book, but was extremely pleased at the appropriateness of the content. Who hasn't felt OVERWHELMED by the responsibilities thrust upon them each day? This audio is especially useful for those pressured for time and desiring to frequently review specific topics such as reflection on priorities, etc. A real investment that will keep on giving back to you- day after day!

Great Contemporaries
Published in Hardcover by University of Chicago Press (August, 1976)
Author: Winston Churchill
Average review score:

Everything was on a grand scale.
There is very little about Sir Churchill that can be considered routine, average, or some standard he can be compared to. Everything he did was generally on a scale that helped to create the Legend he has become, and that he will remain. Even when he erred, it generally was not minor, however rare, but on balance we do not, nor will we have his kind again. He loved his Country, and he loved the US, for he was 50% American, so that even in Washington D.C. today, a statue of him striding forward has one foot on British, and one on American soil.

His life was long, stretching past the 90-year mark, allowing him ample time to write and give speeches, which are routinely quoted to this day. He was a master at both disciplines, with his writing awarded the Nobel Prize For Literature in 1953.

"Great Contemporaries" is a book that is more about the men and women he knew than about the Author. He is evident throughout the read, as the impressions of these people of History are his. The 21 profiles he shares with the reader are incredible in their range, and that they were his "contemporaries" is one testament to the History he created and was a part of.

Contemporary people of fame are often identifiable by a first or last name alone. However as we live in an age where you can chat in real time across the planet, fame does not require the same level of notoriety. The fame is of a different character and caliber.

The Kaiser, Shaw, Chamberlein, Hindenburg, Foch, Trotsky, these are only a fraction of the essays this man of history will share. Too, there is Lawrence of Arabia who requires a bit more than a last name, but it is not do to his renown, rather the generic nature of the end of his sobriquet.

These reminiscences are different than those of today's leaders, there was very little distance between these people, they often met alone, and they did not bring an array of lackeys, translators, and gadflies.

A tremendous sweep of one man's impressions of people whose actions resonate to this day, and in all likelihood will not cease.

The Greatest of Friends: Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill 1941-1945
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (November, 1995)
Author: Keith Alldritt
Average review score:

Details the friendship between Roosevelt and Churchill.
A very good and readable book that details the friendship between two of the greatest leaders in the twentieth century. Both the President and the Prime Minister had huge egos, and were known to be difficult, but the friendship that developed between them helped the Allies win the war with Germany, Italy, and Japan. Many interesting stories of the personal lives of both Roosevelt and Churchill. The friendship that developed between these two great men helped in the post war world.

Harry Winston Ultimate Jeweller
Published in Hardcover by Gemological Inst of Amer (April, 1996)
Author: Harry Winston

Better then this is simply not possible!
When I bought this book, I fell in love with almost every jewellery design. The book is divided in various parts, first the text with how Mr. Winston got started. The well-known story of Mr. Winston's first purchase of a green stone for USD 25 which he eventually sold for many hundreds of dollars more when it turned out to be an emerald. He was truly a genius, in recognizing the finest gems but also with the help of his designer (Mr. Shinde) to put them in a way that the stones looked like they were floating on ice. It really is a wonderful book, the second part is with wonderful photos;(many screenstars, socialites, members of the nobility and the other lucky few etc wear those magnificent pieces) one more beautiful then the other. If you cannot afford - like myself - the real Harry Winston Jewellery, this book comes pretty close.
